Friday Planting

Planted today:

- 14 ft of 'Kentucky Blue' pole beans, single row, about 4 inches apart
- 14 ft of 'Royal Burgundy' bush beans, single row, about 4 inches apart
- 55 ft of 'Envy' soybeans (edimame), pretty much a single row, 4 inches apart

Also did the usual weeding. If nothing else, there's always weeding to do. I'm very glad I'm finally at that point where I can say that. This is new.

The soybeans are about 3 years old (i.e., they were packaged for 2004), so I'm not sure if they're going to come up. But I planted a whole bunch of them -- a few hundred -- so I'm hoping that a few will come up so I can save seed for next spring (and maybe even a very late fall planting).

Here are some pics:

'Liana' pole beans seedlings planted next to yucca flower stalks

An 'Early Sweet' pie pumpkin seedling down in the bottom of this can. I'm trying the can to see if that protects the seedlings from the quail. This seedling is also growing in the 50/50 mix of peat and pig manure.

This is the row in which I planted the beans listed above.

This is the order I placed with Johnny's today. It includes 3 beans, 2 greens, and 6 lettuces.
